What's the Buzz? Firestone Grand Prix in Downtown St. Petersburg

Kick-off the IndyCar Series season with the Firestone Grand Prix in Downtown St. Petersburg.

There's something alluring – almost video game-like – about a temporary race track, stitched together from downtown streets that wrap around unique landmarks. The Firestone Grand Prix has that special something, featuring a course that glides across the Tampa Bay waterfront and zooms under the shadows of downtown skyscrapers. Plus, the Grand Prix's location in the pedestrian-friendly Downtown St. Pete makes it an event that everyone can enjoy.

The Firestone Grand Prix runs March 13-15, featuring open-wheel IndyCars, a Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, a GT touring car championship, and the main event: the NTT IndyCar Series.

Watch as cars fly by at speeds of 170mph and higher along the 1.8-mile street course, starting at Alfred Whitted Airport and circling by the Salvador Dalí Museum and Mahaffey Theater. It's safe to say there's no other race quite like it.

Tickets

Spectators can purchase single-day tickets, opting for a seat in the grandstands ($85-155) or general admission ($25-60). Purchase tickets direct through Indycar online or at Gate 1 at First Street and First Avenue or at Second Street and Fifth Avenue. See map.

Parking

With street closures and an influx of spectators, street parking will be tricky. Visitors can find ample parking at Tropicana Field (home of the MLB's Tampa Bay Rays) for $10 payable by credit card only, then catch a free shuttle ride to the racetrack. Shuttle service runs from 7 am to 10 pm during the three-day event. The shuttle embarks from 16th Street S. and drops off passengers at Second Street S. and Fifth Avenue S. See additional info for trolley and ferry services.

The always-eclectic businesses of Downtown St. Pete will be open during this special event. Central Avenue is a popular location for local craft breweries, restaurants, boutiques and art galleries. Escape the sun for a bit and around to see what downtown has to offer.
